Oh, how I miss dining out with my partner! The combination of food, atmosphere and wine have become a distant memory in 2021 so, let's bring it back to the beginning of 2020. Restaurants were open and it was our three-year anniversary.

To celebrate, my partner and I decided to travel to Birmingham to check out a restaurant named 'Tattu', which specialises in contemporary Chinese food, catering to vegans, vegetarians and meat lovers.

The first thing I have to say about this restaurant is that the decor is unbelievably beautiful, with dinner guests being seated in the downstairs area. The dim lighting from the lanterns and the comfy sofa seats brought a level of intimacy to my night and contributed to the memorable experience.

We began choosing our starters; the waiter who assisted us for the evening was a lovely gentleman, passionate about customer service and food. He recommended that we try the duck spring rolls that we willingly agreed to as we both have an obsession with duck.

The food came within 10 minutes of ordering, and the duck came wrapped in four rolls of light crispy batter with a rich cherry hoisin sauce to accompany it. Many people may argue that four spring rolls are not enough, but it was honestly just the right amount; any more would have been too much as the taste started to become sickly after about two.

With not too little and not too much duck, the starter was a success!

After we had finished our food and had let it settle in our tummies, the waiter came back to ask us about the mains, which we were indecisive about. Again, he recommended his favourite dish, the caramel soy beef fillet, which melted in my mouth and made me crave more and more. Although the portion did not look like it would be filling, paired with a bowl of jasmine rice, the meal was perfect.

Lastly, we topped off the meal with a dessert to share. The Asian pear sticky toffee pudding with the cinnamon engulfed sauce was a real treat for myself and my partner, as we are both pear lovers. The sponginess of the cake combined with the softness of the sweet pear was absolutely delicious and very filling! If you are not a pear fan, please proceed with caution.

Overall, I had a fantastic night at 'Tattu' and I will definitely be going again after lockdown. This restaurant gets a solid 4/5.
